The recovery of wall paintings in Villa Smilea was done once the visible paintings had been made safe. Strategic analysis had made it possible to establish the presence of frescoes of quality covered by layers of plaster and paint. Restoration of these by removal of overlaying paint and dirt. Consolidation of the supporting plaster and of the painted surface, cleaning, making good lacunas, integral retouching and fixing of the painted surface and the final reintegration with parts already restored, has made possible the integral return of dignity to these beautiful frescoes.
